MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Wednesday wished Chief Justice Renato Corona well and hoped he would be fit enough to testify on Friday at the resumption of his impeachment trial in the Senate.

Abigail Valte, one of President Benigno Aquino III’s spokespersons, agreed with the decision of the Senate impeachment court to give Corona, who is in the hospital and under observation, until Friday to return to the Senate and be cross-examined following the three-hour testimony he gave before the impeachment court last Tuesday.

“We do not wish ill on anyone much less the Chief Justice … but even the Senate impeachment court in its wisdom has seen fit to impose reasonable limitations on his medical condition as an excuse for absence,” Valte said.

“We wish him well and ready to stand fit for Friday’s hearing,” she also said.
