Over 77,000 affected by Super Typhoon Julian – NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — The number of individuals affected by Super Typhoon Julian (international name: Krathon) has thus far reached over 77,000, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

In its 8 a.m. situational report on Tuesday, the NDRRMC said that the inclement weather brought by Julian impacted 77,249 individuals, or 22,645 families nationwide.

Of those affected, 1,793 were displaced, with 762 inside evacuation centers, while 1,031 took shelter elsewhere.

Moreover, the agency said 19 roads remain impassable—13 in the Ilocos Region and 6 in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Earlier, Pagasa reported that Julian further strengthened into a super typhoon and was last spotted 205 kilometers west of Itabayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of 230 kph.

It is expected to make landfall along the southwestern coast of Taiwan on Wednesday morning or afternoon and leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday afternoon or evening.
