Marcos: Gov’t ready to help areas affected by Typhoon Julian

Typhoon Julian maintained its strength as it moved over the coastal waters of Batanes as of 11:00 am on September 30, 2024, the state weather bureau said.

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said the government is ready to help areas affected by Typhoon Julian (international name: Krathon).

“I was supposed to go to Ilocos yesterday (Sunday) pero wala na. Iyong weather, sumama na nang husto bagsak ng ulan. So, we ‘re just watching it and seeing what will be needed pagkatapos [ng] pagdaan ng bagyo,” Marcos said in a chance interview in Tarlac.

(I was supposed to go to Ilocos yesterday but couldn’t. The weather, it was raining heavily. So, we’re just watching it and seeing what will be needed after the passing of the typhoon.)

“We’re still having to wait for the water to come down and to do everything for the water to come down. Pero hindi pa ito… Mag-intensify pa ito (But it will still intensify.). So we have to watch,” he added.

Based on the state weather bureau’s latest track monitoring, Typhoon Julian was last spotted over the coastal waters of Sabtang Island, Batanes at 1 p.m.

It carried maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph as it moved 15 kph west-northwestward.

As of 2 p.m., tropical cyclone wind signal no. 4 was raised over the Batanes Islands, with signal no. 3 hoisted over Babuyan Islands.
