LUCENA CITY — A 17-year-old motorcycle back-rider died and two others were gravely injured Monday in a collision between two motorcycles in Siniloan town in Laguna province, police said.

The Region 4A police reported on Tuesday, Sept. 17, that motorcyclist Gibson Moreno and his pillion rider, Gabriel Alejandrino, were traversing the highway in Barangay Halayhayin at 11:20 p.m. when they collided with an oncoming motorcycle ridden by John Eric Olit.

The three riders suffered grave injuries and Alejandrino died on the spot. Moreno and Olit were still confined in a hospital in neighboring Pakil town.

Citing witnesses, the investigators found out, that Moreno was driving his motorcycle “recklessly with fast speed, without taking into consideration the wet condition of the road” which resulted in the collision.

The report did not state whether or not the three motorcycle riders were wearing crash helmets, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
