PNP chief OKs gun ban for Moriones fest

MANILA, Philippines —No guns during the Moriones Festival.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Raul Bacalzo has approved the ban on carrying of firearms during the Moriones Festival in the province of Marinduque.

In a memorandum to the Region 4B police, Bacalzo stated that carrying of firearms would be temporarily suspended in Marinduque from April 16 to 26 except for members of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other law agencies tasked with official duties related to the festival.

Bacalzo said that this was a security measure to ensure safety of revellers during the Moriones Festival.

The Moriones Festival, held during Holy Week, attracts numerous local and foreign tourists every year.
