Imee Marcos slams impeachment talks vs VP Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos on Monday blasted the alleged impeachment talks against Vice President Sara Duterte, describing it as an attack on “democracy.”
“Magsilbing paalala ito na ang gusto n’yong paglaruan ay ang demokrasya,” her statement reads.
(This will serve as a reminder that what you want to play with is democracy.)
“Ang mga hakbang na ito ay kabastusan sa pasya ng bayan at resulta ng eleksyon; isang panghahamak sa boses at karapatan ng sambayanan sa pagpili ng kanilang lider,” she added.
(These steps are an insult to the people’s decision and election results; an affront to the people’s voice and right to choose their leader.)
Article continues after this advertisementShe pointed out that Duterte had over 32 million votes in the 2022 elections, and accused Duterte’s critics of challenging the voters.

Duterte has claimed that her possible impeachment is already being “openly discussed” in the House of Representatives.
The Commission on Audit has issued a notice of disallowance on P73 million of the P125-million confidential fund of Duterte’s office for 2022.
