8 minor earthquakes hit Zambales

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales – Eight minor earthquakes were recorded in this province in four days, based on reports from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said a magnitude 2.6 earthquake jolted this province at 3:40 a.m. on Monday (Sept .2). Its epicenter was located 25 kilometers (km) west of Cabangan town with a depth of five km.

After four minutes, a magnitude 2.3 tremor was felt 34 km west, also in Cabangan town, with a depth of 15 km.

Since Aug. 30, a series of mild tremors has been reported in the province. The first was a 3.1-magnitude earthquake that hit Bajo de Masinloc at 10:51 p.m. with a depth of 11 km.

The next day, Aug. 31, a magnitude 2.9 tremor was felt 36 km west of San Felipe town with a depth of nine km at 5:34 a.m. followed by a magnitude 2.5 tremor 14 km west of Palauig town with a depth of 32 km at 7:51 a.m.

Some mild earthquakes were still felt the following day (Sept. 1): a magnitude 2.0 tremor 8 km west of Cabangan town with a depth of 33 km at 3:48, a magnitude 2.4 tremor 12 km west of Subic town with a depth of 10 km at 9:10 p.m., and a magnitude 2.4 tremor 31 km west of this town with a depth of 24 km at 9:10 p.m. INQ
