Hiroshi logs second straight win

JOHN MICHAEL Flores atoned for his own-goal mistake during Day 1 of the tournament by converting two penalties shots, towing Hiroshi Football Club to its  second straight win in the men’s open of the 12th Cebu Interclub Football Cup yesterday at the football field of the University of San Carlos Technological Center (USC-TC).

The defending champions squeaked past Camella FC, 3-2, to top the bracket A of the category with six points off  a win-draw-loss record of 2-0-1.

Hiroshi FC scored first just a minute before halftime on Flores’ first penalty, which resulted from a handball call.

In the second half, Hiroshi FC padded its lead with a goal from John Paul Arranguez in the 52nd minute.

Camella FC was not willing to concede the match and scored its first goal at the 63rd minute courtesy of Nivi Xamxon. The team then scored the equalizer 15 minutes later on Albert Estrada’s goal.

However, Camella FC was called for another handball, which put Flores back to the penalty area during injury time.

In bracket B, San Roque Football Club strengthened its hold of the top spot with nine points after winning all three of its matches so far.

SRFC edged Southwestern University, 2-1, while Queen City United (QCU) and Don Bosco United Football Club ended their match at 4-all.

In the 40 Above, ERCO FC clinched its second consecutive win with no sweat as Baliant Hawk UTD defaulted its match. The other match in the category saw QCU-A thrashing its sister team QCU-B, 3-0.

In the boys 17, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and Springdale shares the top spot with two wins apiece. The Magis Eagles routed University of San Carlos North Campus, 6-0, while Springdale posted a similar score against FCIC.

In bracket B, Mandaue Technical Institute also pulled abreast of Abellana National School (ANS) Pomeroy at the top with an 8-0 thrashing of the DB Razkals. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
