Manila Water PH Ventures partners with Canlubang Sugar Estate for water project

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Water Non-East Zone operating subsidiary Manila Water Philippine Ventures (MWPV) and Canlubang Sugar Estate (CSE) recently embarked on a 25-year partnership for a bulk water supply project which aims to improve water access in more towns in Laguna.

A groundbreaking event was recently held in the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Cabuyao, Laguna to celebrate the new partnership. The P1.4-B Bulk Water Supply Project involves the rehabilitation of the Matang Tubig Spring (MTS) as water source and the construction of a 13-kilometer water transmission line that will connect the MTS Source Upper Box to the Laguna Wellfield Reservoir in LTI Annex, Biñan.

The project will be constructed by MWPV’s construction arm, Manila Water Infratech Solutions, and will be managed and operated by its operating unit, Estate Water.

The MWPV-CSE Bulk Water Supply Project aims to secure a more sustainable surface water supply compared to the typical groundwater sources. Over the next 25 years, Estate Water will supply 17 million liters of potable water from MTS daily to Laguna Water, MWPV’s concessionaire in the province of Laguna.

“We are committed to delivering this crucial project with unwavering integrity, efficiency, and a steadfast focus on enhancing the quality of life of customers within our Laguna Water concession area,” assured Manila Water Chief Operating Officer for Non-East Zone and Manila Water Philippine Ventures President Melvin John Tan.

“The importance of water cannot be overestimated as an essential and finite resource for the people and nation, and this must be protected and be made sustainable. And this is our responsibility. With the partnership of the Manila Water group and their expertise, and in partnership also with the community, the government, and the Yulo family, we strive to bring this project to fruition,” shares Jose Ramon Yulo, CSE President.

Meanwhile, guest of honor DENR Undersecretary for Integrated Environmental Science and Head of the Water Resources Management Office Carlos Primo David expressed DENR’s commitment to identifying resources and assets to utilize and finding viable partners for project development. He is optimistic about gaining more project ventures with the Manila Water Group, underlining the strong support from government officials and stakeholders.

Present also at the event were other members and teams from CSE, MWPV and the Provincial Government of Laguna. Representing Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez were Laguna Provincial Administrator Atty. Dulce Rebanal and Laguna Provincial Legal Counsel Atty. Rodel Paderayon.

In his message, Manila Water President and CEO Jocot De Dios assured that Laguna Water is doing its best to replicate Manila Water’s best practices in the East Zone and offer the same quality of service to Laguna’s customers.

“We will make this work. We always thrive to ensure water reliability to areas we serve within and outside Metro Manila,” De Dios added.
