An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 hits waters off Davao Oriental on Tuesday morning, August 6, 2024, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The state seismologist said that aftershocks and damage due to the tremor are unlikely. INQUIRER FILES

MANILA, Philippines — An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 struck waters off Davao Oriental on Tuesday morning, the state seismologist said.

The tectonic quake with a depth of 10 kilometers occurred 56 kilometers northeast of Cateel town at 6:05 a.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

As of writing, Phivolcs has yet to record and report the intensities of the tremor.
