Rainy Friday expected in Luzon, fair weather in Visayas, Mindanao
MANILA, Philippines — A cloudy, rainy Friday due to the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” is forecast in Luzon, while fair weather is expected in the Visayas and Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
“Sa buong Luzon makakaranas pa din tayo ng maulap na may kalat-kalat na pag-ulan, pagkulog at pagkidlat,” Pagasa weather specialist Daniel Villamil said in an early morning update.
(Throughout Luzon, we will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.)
Villamil said the “habagat” will affect northern and central Luzon the most.
“Mas maaliwalas na panahon ang ating mararanasan sa Visayas at Mindanao,” Villamil added.
(Fairer weather will prevail in the Visayas and Mindanao.)
LPA alert
In the meantime, Pagasa is closely monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) some 1,035 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao.
Villamil said the LPA has a slim chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 24-48 hours and will remain far from the country’s landmass.
This comes as the country is still recovering from the effects of “habagat,” enhanced by Typhoon Carina, which exited the Philippine area of responsibility Thursday.
