Training plane overshoots Bulacan airport

MANILA, Philippines — A training plane overshot the runway of the Plaridel Airport in Bulacan on Saturday afternoon, leaving one of the pilots with minor injuries, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippine (CAAP) said.

Based on initial reports, the Cessna 152 aircraft (RP-C 5656), carrying an instructor pilot and a student pilot, executed a “bumpy landing” at around 1:50 p.m. on runway 17 and continued without decelerating until it reached runway 35.

The pilot tried to take off again, but was unable to do so due to insufficient airspeed and eventually hit the airport’s perimeter fence and a nearby home.

The CAAP said its licensing and certification department and aircraft accident investigation and inquiry board will conduct separate investigations of the incident.

The aircraft is operated by Fliteline Aviation, which is also based in Plaridel. —Jerome Aning
