Marcos touts notable progress in fight vs insurgency in Samar

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday said he is hopeful that the P2.5-billion renovation of Tacloban Airport will be complete by 2026.

He made the pronouncement during a distribution of presidential assistance to farmers and fisherfolk in Palo, Leyte.

In his speech, Marcos told Palo citizens that the airport may be inaugurated as early as 2025.

“This will be the old airport, the Speaker said to me, that it will soon be finished. Maybe next year we can inaugurate the terminal,” he said in Filipino.

“We wish that by 2026, it will be finished and will bring better and faster service to our countrymen,” he added.

Among the improvements being developed in the airport are its Passenger Terminal Building and the airport runway.

Marcos also mentioned the nearing completion of Tacloban City Causeway, which will speed up the trip from the city to the airport.

“These projects are not only for the development of infrastructure in your province, but also to ensure the security and safety of your community,” he said in Filipino.

Among the assistance distributed in Leyte are financial aid amounting to P17,020,000 for the provincial government of Leyte, P13,680,000 to Biliran and P10,310,000 to Southern Leyte.
