Woman caught illegally using Edsa busway tried to bribe traffic enforcer

MANILA, Philippines —  A woman wearing a Philippine Army (PA) uniform who was caught illegally using the Edsa busway attempted to bribe and even threatened to file complaints against a traffic enforcer, according to the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT).

The incident happened on Tuesday. SAICT said a traffic enforcer asked for the woman’s official receipt or certificate of registration (OR/CR).

“An argument ensued and lasted when the defiant individual was asked to present their OR/CR and attempted to bribe the apprehending enforcer. Due to the lack of OR/CR, the vehicle was immediately brought to the impounding area of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) at East Avenue, Quezon City,” the SAICT said in Filipino.

The vehicle also had a PA logo on its door, it added.

While she was being issued with a Temporary’s Operator Permit at the LTO, the woman pulled out her OR/CR which she initially failed to present.

She then threatened to file complaints against the personnel who were issuing the ticket.

“In the end, the violation ticket issued by the enforcer to the vehicle owner was for an unregistered vehicle and disregarding a traffic sign,” the SAICT said.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said that only buses and responding emergency vehicles can use the Edsa busway.
