Geles preparing to beat Melindo in PP XVI
WITH barely two weeks before the ALA Boxing Promotions “Pinoy Pride XIV: Night Of Champions,” Colombian boxer Jesus Geles vowed to give boxing fans a fight that they will never forget when he battles undefeated and flyweight No. 1 contender Milan “Metodico” Melindo for the vacant WBO International flyweight title at the Resorts World, Manila.
The June 2 ring war will be one of three title fights to be featured in the explosive card headed by two division world champion and current WBO Light Flyweight king Donnie “Ahas” Nietes who will defend his title against WBO and IBF No. 7 Felipe Salguero of Mexico.
Former WBO interim lightflyweight champion Geles who won over Mexican Ramon Garcia Hirales last year but lost his title in a rematch, said he has been preparing very well in his base in Cartagena at the Centro de Alto Redimiento.
“Melindo is known to be a technical fighter. I am also a technical fighter and this will be a very interesting fight. I am hungry and am preparing myself to win,” said Geles.
“I am still young and hungry to regain my title and at 112 I am comfortable. I learned a lot from losing my world title and it will surely help me win my fight with Melindo. Knockout or decision I am preparing myself to win and I would like to thank ALA Promotions and All Star Boxing’s Tuto Zabala Jr. and my manager Osvaldo Martinez for believing in me and giving me another opportunity,” added Geles.
The fight card also includes undefeated Filipino prospect Genesis “Azukal” Servania going up against “The Real” Genaro Garcia. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
