MANILA, Philippines — Rain showers are expected in parts of Luzon on Wednesday due to the trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility, the state weather bureau said.

The LPA is located east of Japan and is also a part of a frontal system, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Obet Badrina.

(There is a high chance of rain today, particularly in the provinces of Aurora and Isabela, Quezon, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur.)

On the other hand, the rest of the country may expect generally fair weather, partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

‘Monsoon break’

Badrina also explained that a “monsoon break” is behind warm weather and high temperatures in parts of the country, despite Pagasa’s recent official declaration of the start of the rainy season.

(For those asking why Pagasa has declared the rainy season even though it’s still hot, especially around noon, it’s because we are experiencing a monsoon break. During this period, the southwest monsoon, or habagat, is not yet strong enough to trigger rainfall.)
