Robbers take P1M from CamSur businessman
NAGA CITY — A businessman was robbed of almost one million pesos worth of cash while he was driving on his way to a bank in Iriga City on Wednesday, police said Thursday.
Jaime Rodriguez, 65, a rice mill owner in and resident of Barangay San Roque, Buhi, Camarines Sur, was driving his car along Guevarra Street, Barangay (village) Santiago in Iriga at 9:45 a.m., when he came across metal spikes on the road, scattered earlier by the suspects. The spikes blew out his tires, and forced him to stop, said PO3 Herbert Abias of the Iriga police.
Five armed men suddenly came at him from the side of the road and, at gunpoint, forcibly took a black bag in his car containing about P1 million in cash, Abias said.
Abias said the robbers fired shots at the hood of the victim’s vehicle before escaping on board motorcycles headed for an unknown direction.
Abias said Rodriguez told the police that he was on his way to deposit the money to a bank in Iriga City, when he was robbed.
Abias said Rodriguez was now working with personnel from the National Bureau of Investigations to come up with cartographic sketches of the suspects.
