MANILA, Philippines — The Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) said it has completed the series of scheduled electrical system upgrades at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 3 on Tuesday.

The upgrade, which began last April 2, included the replacement of deteriorated medium-voltage switchgear components across eight different electrical substations within the terminal.

“The final segment of power-related maintenance activity began at 12:01 a.m. today and was concluded at 3:00 a.m. Similar to the previous works, MIAA’s generator sets provided power to the Terminal giving priority to critical equipment and facilities to ensure continuous passenger processing and uninterrupted flight operations,” Miaa in a statement.

The airport management, however, said that there is still an observable lack of lighting in the terminal’s curbsides, hallways, and roadways, which will be looked into as ordered by General Manager Eric Jose Ines.

Miaa added that the upgrade guarantees a “more dependable” electrical system for Terminal 3.

“We are, however mindful of some issues in a specific area of the terminal as a result of this upgrade and we will continue to work on these until they are fully resolved,” it added.
