First couple hosts ‘get-together’ with several senators and their spouses

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had a get-together with several senators in a photo posted following the ousting of former Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

In a now-deleted post, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos took a photo on Wednesday to Instagram to share with the President and select senators and their spouses.

“Had a nice time with our Senators and their spouses. Hope to see you guys again in August,” said Marcos-Araneta in an Instagram post.

Zubiri and several of his allies in the Senate, Joel Villanueva, JV Ejercito, Sonny Angara, and Nancy Binay, were notably absent from the picture.

Newly-instated  Senate President Francis Escudero, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, and Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino were in attendance.

Also in the get-together were Senators Robin Padilla, Alan Cayetano, Francis Tolentino, Raffy Tulfo, Sherwin Gatchalian, Mark Villar, Grace Poe, Cynthia Villar, Loren Legarda, and Pia Cayetano.

In a shocking turn of events, Zubiri was ousted in the Senate last Monday. The former Senate president resigned, with Escudero stepping into the position on the same day.
