Phivolcs Taal Volcano update: 8 volcanic quakes in 24 hours
MANILA, Philippines – Eight volcanic earthquakes, including five tremors were recorded in Taal Volcano from 12 a.m. Monday until 12 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
According to Phivolcs, each earthquake and tremor lasted two to four minutes each.
Alert level 1 remains in effect, Phivolcs added.
Moreover, Phivolcs said that 3,823 tons of sulfur dioxide were released by the volcano last May 20, and there was an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the Main Crater Lake.
Plumes 2,400 meters tall were also spotted and drifted west-northwest.
Article continues after this advertisementPhivolcs reminded that entry into Taal Volcano Island, especially the Main Crater and Daang Kastila fissures, and boating and flying any aircraft close to the volcano remain prohibited.
