I am not a spy – Bamban Mayor Alice Guo

MANILA, Philippines — Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo on Monday categorically denied allegations  that she is a spy but revealed that she is a household helper’s  “love child”.

In a lengthy statement in Filipino, Guo also pledged her allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines.

Guo reiterated that she has nothing to do with the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (Pogo) establishment in her town, but she touted its benefits to the town. 

“Wala po akong kinalaman sa ilegal na operasyon ng Pogo sa Baofu Compound na sakop ng aming munisipyo. At HINDI rin po ako espiya ng alinmang bansa kagaya ng ibinibintang,” Guo said.

(I have no involvement in the Pogo operations in Baofu Compound that is within our municipality. And I am also NOT a spy for any other country as alleged.)

Article continues after this advertisement “Ang pagkakaalam ko po ay mayroong opisina ang Pagcor doon mismo sa loob ng Pogo hub sa Baofu Compound upang subaybayan, bantayan at i-regulate ang takbo ng nasabing lisensyadong Pogo operator,” she added. The mayor said Pagcor has the capacity to monitor and go after illegal online activities and criminal acts, like those of Zun Yuan and its officials.

She said it is part of her sworn duties as mayor to help improve the lives of Bamban residents, which prompted her to allow the operation of Zun Yuan in her town, adding that after the company showed documents that it is licensed by Pagcor to operate. Guo said around 200 families were hired by the POGO hub, providing them with a source of livelihood. Guo is currently being investigated by the Senate over the possibility that she is a Chinese “asset” trained to infiltrate the Philippine government.

Her answers in the Senate inquiry led by Sen. Risa Hontiveros raised eyebrows as Guo said she did not know who her mother and only knows her father. 

To address this, Guo said her biological mother already left when she was young as she also urged her mother to surface.

“Alang-alang sa aking mga kababayan na nagtitiwala at nagmamahal sa akin ay buong tapang ko pong sasabihin na ako po’y isang LOVE CHILD ng mahal kong ama sa aming kasambahay,” Guo said.

(For the sake of my countrymen who trust and love me, I will bravely admit that I am my father’s love child with our maid.)

“Sana nga po ay lumitaw na ang tunay kong ina at kanyang akuin ang pagluwal sa akin upang matigil na po ang mga pagdududa na ako’y isang espiya,” she added.
