Marcos renews commitment to free tertiary education

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday reiterated that his administration remains committed to providing free tertiary education.
During the National Higher Education Day Summit in Pasay City, Marcos said that education remains his administration’s highest priority.

“This administration remains committed to the continuing provision of free tertiary education in public universities and colleges for qualified students as provided under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act,” said Marcos in his speech.
“Democratizing access to education should not lead to the lowering of academic standards,” he said.
Marcos said that whatever is spent on education is not an expenditure but an investment.
“No challenge demands greater attention than this. This is the highest priority,” he remarked.
“I have stated it before but I will state it again that as far as my view of government service is concerned, the most important service that government must provide to its people is a good education,” noted the chief executive.
