Deaf-mute girl accuses boyfriend of rape in Ronda

A 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting his deaf-mute girlfriend after attending a disco in a fiesta celebration in barangay Liboo, Ronda town, southern Cebu, last Sunday dawn.

Ryan Rabutin, who owned up to the crime, did not resist arrest  and will be charged with rape.

Police investigation revealed that the 21-year-old victim was walking home after attending a disco around 3 a.m. when her boyfriend waylaid her and brought her to a secluded and grassy area and raped her.

Police said the victim went home after the incident and narrated the incident to her mother through sign language.

Police arrested Rabutin outside their home around 4:15 a.m.

The victim was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) for medical examination.

“He (Rabuti) said he did it (rape) because the victim was his girlfriend,” said PO1 Myrla Saornido of the Ronda police in Cebuano./REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
