Heat index forecast in PH: 6 areas to hit 42°C to 43°C April 5
MANILA, Philippines — Six areas in the country were forecast to experience a heat index ranging from 42 to 43 degrees Celsius on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
According to the state weather agency, the six areas are:
- Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 43 degrees Celsius
- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 42 degrees Celsius
- Puerto Princesa City, Palawan – 42 degrees Celsius
- Aborlan, Palawan – 43 degrees Celsius
- Dumangas, Iloilo – 42 degrees Celsius
- Catarman, Northern Samar – 42 degrees Celsius

Pagasa advised the public to limit time spent outdoors, drink plenty of water, avoid tea, coffee, soda, and liquor, use umbrellas, wear hats and sleeved clothing outdoors, and schedule heavy-duty activities during the cooler periods of the day.

Article continues after this advertisementPagasa previously explained that temperatures ranging from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius fall under the danger category of heat indices, which result in heat cramps, exhaustion, and even heat stroke with drawn-out exposure.
It defined heat index as “a measure of the contribution that high humidity makes to abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”
