Marcos vows swift justice for slain soldiers in Maguindanao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday vowed swift justice for four soldiers who died in an ambush in Maguindanao del Sur.

The soldiers were killed by suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan on Sunday.

“Under my administration, we remain resolute in our pledge to ensure that justice is swiftly served for our fallen heroes,” Marcos said in a statement.

Marcos said he has also ordered immediate provision of benefits and assistance to support the families of the slain soldiers.

Details about the ambush are still thin, and the identities of the soldiers have yet to be publicized.

Marcos, who “strongly condemn[ed]” the ambush, also called it “despicable” and “tragic.”

“This despicable act only strengthens our resolve to eradicate terrorism from the region and our entire nation,” Marcos said.

“Let this tragic event unite us in our unwavering commitment [to] a safer, stronger, and insurgency-free Philippines. Together, we shall prevail against these acts of violence,” he added.
