Suspect claims to be concerned citizen, reports girl’s rape/slay to cops

LUCENA CITY – A 9-year-old girl was raped, killed and then placed inside a jute sack before being dumped on Saturday (March 2) in Atimonan, Quezon.

In a report Sunday (March 3), Quezon police said a 20-year-old scavenger, identified as “Peter,” reported the incident to the police station around 2:09 p.m.

He claimed he found a sack with the body of the rape victim in Barangay (village) Zone 2 around 1:50 p.m.

However, in the course of the investigation, police recovered footage from a security camera in the vicinity of the crime scene.

It showed Peter with a sack in hand, walking with the victim who was still alive at that time.

The footage prompted police to believe Peter was involved in the crime and they subsequently arrested him.

He is now facing criminal charges.

Police said the suspect tried to conceal his crime by acting as a concerned citizen supposedly reporting his discovery of the dead body to the authorities.
