Relocation for Pasig River informal settlers — Bongbong Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said that the poor families living along the banks of the  Pasig River must be relocated. 

Marcos led the launch of the Pasig River Urban Development showcase area, which showed a revamped promenade behind the Manila Central Post Office, right along the historic river. 

“As the threat of climate change looms, we must save the poor and vulnerable living along its banks from the ravages of frequent and fearsome typhoons by transferring them to better homes, which they deserve,” said Marcos.

According to Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, up to 10,000 informal settler families may need to be relocated for the said project. 

Acuzar said there will be a housing project for them. Marcos echoed the need to house those displaced by the project.  

“Make no mistake about it, it will be a people-centered and community-driven project,” said Marcos.
