MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Saturday that many parts of the country may experience cloudy skies with rain for the next three days.

Based on its three-day weather outlook, the shear line is expected to bring overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over eastern Visayas, Caraga, the Davao region, and northern Mindanao from January 14-17.

The weather outlook also said that the northeast monsoon, which is locally known as amihan, will continuously bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon during the same period.

The rest of Luzon, on the other hand, was forecast to have slightly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains for the next three days.

As for the rest of the country, Pagasa said cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may be anticipated due to the easterlies or warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean.

For Saturday’s weather, Pagasa said the shear line will continue to affect some parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

“Dahil sa shear line makakaranas tayo ng mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan na may kulog at pagkidlat sa silangang bahagi ng Visayas at itong northeastern section ng Mindanao,” said Pagasa weather expert Daniel James Villamil.

(Because of the shear line, we will experience scattered rains with thunder and lightning in the eastern part of the Visayas and the northeastern section of Mindanao.)

Specifically, he said, such weather condition will occur in Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands.

The state weather agency warned residents living in low-lying areas to take extra precaution against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

An enhanced northeast monsoon, meanwhile, was seen to bring cloudy skies with light rains over mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, the Bicol Region, and Western Visayas on Saturday.

The northeast monsoon will likewise cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
