MANILA, Philippines — Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna said on Thursday that The Feast of the Black Nazarene on January 9 will be declared a non-working holiday in the city.

According to Lacuna, the Manila government requested the Executive Secretary’s office declare January 9 a non-working holiday in the city.

“Tayo ay sumulat sa tanggapan ng Executive Secretary na kung maaari po ma-deklara ang January 9 as a non-working holiday, taon-taon din pinagbigyan, iniintay lang namin ang kasagutan nila kung mapagbibigyan din ngayong taon,” said Lacuna in a media conference with Quiapo Church.

If the Palace denies the request, Lacuna said she will issue an executive order declaring the suspension of work and classes in the city on January 9.

“Kasi dadayuhin po talaga tayo at marami pong mga road closure tayong gagawin; hindi lang naman po mga tiga-Maynila ang tumutungo sa ating lungsod,” she explained.
