Lawmaker cites benefits of caregivers’ welfare law
MANILA, Philippines — Better working conditions await Filipino caregivers following the recent passage of Caregivers’ Welfare Act into law, Senator Jinggoy Estrada said on Monday.
Estrada, who heads the Senate panel on labor and one of the authors of the Caregivers’ Welfare Act, said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s signing of the measure is a vital step towards the protection of Filipino caregivers.
“Isa itong malaking hakbang para matiyak na mapapabuti ang kalagayan ng ating mga caregivers at mabibigyan ng proteksyon ang isang vulnerable but vigorous sector ng ating lipunan,” said Estrada in a statement.
(This is a big step to ensure that the condition of our caregivers will be improved and that the vulnerable but vigorous sector of our society will be protected.)
“It is essential to protect them from any mistreatment. Caregivers are frequently undervalued and should be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness,” he added.

Covered by the law are caregivers employed and working in the country in private homes, nursing or care facilities and those directly hired by the employer or placed through Public Employment Services Office and private employment agencies.
