Northeast monsoon, easterlies influence PH weather – Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon continues to prevail in Luzon, while the easterlies still affect Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tuesday.
It added that the two weather systems are expected to bring rain to the country.
“Sa kasalukuyan ay patuloy ang pag-iral ng amihan sa may bahagi ng Luzon, at yung easterlies naman ang siyang nakakaapekto sa silangang bahagi ng Visayas at Mindanao,” Pagasa weather specialist Patrick del Mundo said in a report.
(Currently, the northeast monsoon continues to dominate Luzon, and the easterlies affect the eastern part of Visayas and Mindanao.)
Pagasa said the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, will bring overcast skies with rain to Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Aurora, and Quezon.

Along with localized thunderstorms, the easterlies will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Palawan, the Bicol Region, the rest of Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao, the weather agency added.
As for gale alerts, Pagasa said they are still hoisted over several coasts due to the northeast monsoon.
It noted that waves as high as five meters may be experienced in the following seaboards of the following areas:
- Batanes
- Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands
- Ilocos Norte
- Ilocos Sur
- La Union
- Pangasinan
- Isabela
- Aurora
- Kalayaan Islands
Pagasa discouraged sailing off these coasts because it would be dangerous.
