Ex-UPLB student turned NPA fighter dies in Oriental Mindoro clash
MANILA, Philippines — A former University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) student who became a New People’s Army (NPA) fighter was killed in an encounter with government troops in Gloria, Oriental Mindoro, authorities confirmed.
“One student from the UPLB died last week in one of our combat operations,” said Brigadier General Randolph Cabangbang, commander of the Army’s 203rd Infantry Brigade, during the anticommunist taskforce’s press conference on Wednesday.
Cabangbang identified the rebel as Jethro Isaac Ferrer.
Ferrer’s body was already claimed by his parents for proper burial, according to the military official.
