LUCENA CITY – Four cities in Laguna province have ordered the resumption of in-person classes after the jeepney strike failed to paralyze their localities.

The local governments of Cabuyao, Biñan, Sta. Rosa, and Calamba cities announced on their Facebook pages that classes in their respective localities would resume on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The local government in Biñan City, however, declared that they respect the rights of the transportation sector.

On Monday the mayors in the four cities, including San Pedro City suspended in-person classes due to a jeepney strike. The local schools shifted to modular and online classes.

San Pedro has yet to announce whether face-to-face classes will resume on Tuesday.

However, the local government announced that free transportation from San Pedro-Biñan boundary to RMT Tunasan route in neighboring Muntinlupa City and vice versa would continue until Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the transport strike by the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) did not succeed in paralyzing the transportation system in Metro Manila.

Piston pushed through with its three-day nationwide transport strike in protest of the Dec. 31 deadline for the consolidation of traditional public utility jeepneys.
