Militants gather in QC landmark

MANILA, Philippines — Militants have been massing in Welcome Rotonda, Quezon City since Monday evening as they prepare for their march to Mendiola this Labor Day.

As of posting time, about 50 protesters can be seen in the area although more are expected to arrive, Senior Police Officer 1 Joey Valez of Quezon City Police District station 11, said in a phone interview.

The march is expected to end in Mendiola, near Malacanang, where the rallysts are expected to air their demands, topped by a wage increase.

The Philippine National Police has deployed around 4,000 to 5,000 personnel in various parts of Metro Manila to maintain peace and order.

Before deployment, the policemen were reminded to respect the rallyists rights at all times, and to exercise maximum tolerance.
