MANILA, Philippines — The entire northern Luzon would see overcast skies and rains on Sunday due to the northeast monsoon, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also said that two other weather systems, the shearline and localized thunderstorms, would bring rain showers over the rest of the country.

“Dahil sa epekto ng northeast monsoon, o amihan, itong buong northern Luzon, ito ‘yung rehiyon ng Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, at Cordillera, makararanas tayo ng mataas na tyansa ng kaulapan,” said Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil.

The state weather agency said the shear line, or the convergence of cold and warm winds, is anticipated to bring overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Camarines Norte, Central Luzon, and CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon).

The rest of the country, on the other hand, could expect generally fair weather conditions despite the possibility of isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening, Pagasa also said.

Affected residents were advised to stay alert especially those living in low-lying areas because of potential flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, Pagasa did not raise a gale warning in any part of the country’s seaboards for Sunday.
