A man who had yielded a sachet of “shabu,” or methamphetamine hydrochloride, following his arrest for two traffic violations was shot dead by a policeman after he reportedly tried to escape and grabbed the lawman’s service firearm on Saturday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Joselito Gagaza of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit identified the fatality as Ramil Oca, a 44-year-old resident of Antipolo City.

Based on the statements given by the policemen involved in the shooting, Oca was arrested on Saturday by members of the QCPD anticar theft unit in the Muñoz area for using a fake license plate on his motorcycle and driving without a license.
