MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on Monday said that it has already settled 76 percent of its P27 billion debt to hospitals.

PhilHealth president and CEO Emmanuel Ledesma Jr, in a statement, said the agency has disbursed a total of P20.651 billion in payment out of the P27 billion hospital claims.

“This achievement occurred just weeks after our self-imposed 90-day deadline,” said Ledesma in a statement.

Ledesma was referring to the agency’s vow during a House committee on appropriations hearing on the proposed 2024 budget of the Department of Health (DOH) and its attached agencies amounting to P311.3 billion on Sept. 6, where he himself committed to settling majority, if not all, of unpaid hospital claims.

“We are confident that we can fulfill our remaining obligations before the year concludes,” he added.
