MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday will bring rains in portions of the Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

According to weather specialist Obet Badrina, the LPA is still outside the PAR and was last seen around 1,425 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon.

Pagasa said that the trough of this LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Central and Eastern Visayas and a large portion of Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said that it is the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat” that will bring the same weather conditions in Palawan and Occidental Mindoro.

The bureau also noted that the rest of Luzon, as well as western Visayas, may expect generally fair weather with chances of isolated rains due to thunderstorms.

(Rain showers and thunderstorms during afternoon to evening are possible. Heavy rains may occur, but only for a short time. These are due to the localized thunderstorms.)

Although no gale warning was raised in the country, the weather bureau still advised sailors to take precautions against sudden thunderstorms that may cause strong winds and waves.
