DRUG SUSPECT SHOT
A MAN was shot and wounded by a policeman in a drug buy-bust operation in barangay Luyang, Carmen town, northern Cebu.
Rolando Casas, 43, was wounded in the right thigh.
Police said Casas sold a pack of suspected shabu worth P26,000 to a police asset who posed as a buyer last Wednesday.
Members of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) were about to arrest Casas, when he drew a .45 pistol, forcing one of the policemen to shoot him, said PO3 Reynaldo Solante of the PIB.
Police said Casas was suspected to be the financier of a robbery group and was on surveillance for more than month earlier.

Article continues after this advertisementSupt. Rodulfo Albotra, chief of the PIB, said Casas was the subject of a previous buy-bust by the Criminal Investigation and Detective Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7) and Mandaue police but he eluded arrest.

COP FIRED GUN?
A POLICEMAN caused a commotion by indiscriminately firing his gun while he was drunk in barangay Tapul, Talisay City, southern Cebu.
PO2 Bryan Quijano, who is assigned in Alcoy town, was outside his girlfriend’s house when he fired his weapon on Wednesday night, said complaining residents
The mother of the woman said her daughter left the policeman because of his vices.
Talisay policemen rushed to the area but Quijano was no longer there. They found two shells of a .45 pistol on the ground. Residents said they would press charges against the policeman./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC.
KOREAN NABBED FOR THEFT
POLICE arrested a 35-year-old Korean national who was accused of theft by a fellow Korean.
Kee Jung Hai of Cheunzu City, South Korea, was arrested at home in barangay Lagtang, Talisay City.
The complainant, Jang Junayu, 51, said he asked Hai to withdraw P170,000 using his ATM card at Parkmall in Mandaue Reclamation Area and that the man never returned with the cash.
This occurred around 6 p.m. last Tuesday.
Junayu told police that after an hour passed when Hai didn’t return, he tried calling Hai’s cell phone but could not reach him.
Accompanied by fellow Koreans and Talisay police, he went to Hai’s house. Police said Hai tried to escape but was cornered.
Only Junayu’s ATM card was recovered, not the cash, said police. Hai was turned over to the Mandaue City Police Station 2./CORRESPONDENT FE MARIE D. DUMABOC
WANTED MAN FALLS
A MAN wanted for murder in 2004 was arrested in barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
Police said Gerard Ursabia, 54, was charged with murder in 2004 and was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Aproniano Taipen.
Ursabia was arrested in the office of ANAD Party-list and claimed he was a staff member of ANAD. /CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
WOMAN NABBED FOR DRUGS
A 21-YEAR-OLD woman was arrested while her elder sister eluded arrest in a drug buy-bust operation in barangay Labangon, Cebu City, last Wednesday dawn.
Marycris Paras was arrested shortly after she allegedly sold a pack of suspected shabu to a policeman who posed as a buyer.
Police said the subject of the operation was Marycris’ elder sister Florinda, who was escaped by running toward the interior portion of the place.
Police said Marycris, a single mother, admitted that she was forced to sell illegal drugs to support her child./REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
