Mandaluyong City to establish single parents’ welfare office
MANILA, Philippines — The local government unit of Mandaluyong City on Friday said it will establish an office that will take charge of single parents’ welfare.
According to City Ordinance 941, a Solo Parents Office will be created in the city, which will be supervised by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The Solo Parents Office will be in charge of a database of single parents in the city, will assist them in receiving privileges, and report individuals or institutions that refuse to give benefits for single parents.
A Solo Parent Identification card (SPIC) as well as a booklet, which will be valid for one year, will also be issued to single parents upon presentation and verification of necessary documents.
The ordinance also said that apart from the benefits that single parents will receive from the national law, they will also receive free medical assistance, livelihood support, and social safety aid in times of disasters, calamities, or public health emergencies.
