Cop in rage incident loses driver’s license
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked for two years the driver’s license of Wilfredo Gonzales, the dismissed police officer who was caught on video in Quezon City beating a bicycle rider while holding a gun. He was found liable for four violations of the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, resulting in the revocation of his nonprofessional driver’s license. Based on the resolution signed by LTO-National Capital Region director Roque Verzosa III and approved by LTO chief Vigor Mendoza, Gonzales will be fined P1,000 for disregarding traffic signs; P1,000 for obstruction of traffic; and P2,000 for reckless driving. The LTO earlier issued a show-cause order to Gonzales, but he did not appear in the hearing last Aug. 31 and was instead represented by his son who surrendered the driver’s license of Gonzales in line with the 90-day preventive suspension issued by the LTO in August.—JANE BAUTISTA
