Comelec: Over 273,000 COCs filed, so far, for barangay, SK polls
A total of 21,657 filed for the position of barangay chairman, and 143,638 for barangay councilman.
Meanwhile, 17,085 filed their COCs for SK chairman and 91,071 others as SK members.
The figures reflect data from 42,001 barangays in 81 of 82 provinces. No data has so far been provided from South Cotabato.
The filing of COCs for the 2023 barangay and SK elections kicked off on August 28 and will run until September 2, with the elections scheduled on October 30.
Meanwhile, Comelec chairman George Garcia said four cases of election-related violence have so far been reported in the provinces of Albay, Rizal, and Maguindanao.

Article continues after this advertisementGarcia said a total of six firearms and 17 deadly weapons were also confiscated at several checkpoints, and that ten individuals have been arrested.
Comelec has implemented a gun ban from August 28 — coinciding with the first day of the COC filing — and will stretch until November 28.
Under the gun ban, Comelec prohibits the unauthorized bearing, carrying, or transporting of firearms and deadly weapons outside residences, businesses, and public places, based on the poll body’s Resolution No. 10918.
