Mandaue sidewalks up for rehabilitation
THE local government of Mandaue City allocated P22 million to rehabilitate the sidewalks and drainage systems in major streets.
City Development Coordinator and the Mayor Management Team’s vice chairperson Delia Rodrigo said the rehabilitation includes repair and installation of road drainage systems, road concreting, sidewalk painting, regular garbage collection and regulation of sidewalk vendors.
“The sidewalks around here are often crowded by the vendors. People find it difficult to use the sidewalks. That’s why we have to reclaim and instruct the businesses to move their stalls away from sidewalks,” Rodrigo said in Cebuano.
The local government allocated P14 million for the sidewalk and drainage rehabilitation of B. Ceniza Street. P8 million will be for the sidewalks of Zamora, Mabini and and Gomez street.
The Taga-Mandaue Incorporated (TMI), a nongovernment organization, is also launching the “My Mandaue sidewalk rehabilitation and beautification project” to make the city’s sidewalks more pedestrian friendly.
Rodrigo said they already talked with the vendors occupying the sidewalks, including the bibingka vendors to transfer to the city pasalubong center, which will be opened soon.
