Thunderstorms, heavy rains slam Metro Manila and parts of Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and parts of Luzon are hit by moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds on Monday morning due to southwest monsoon or habagat, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) said in its advisory.

According to its advisory issued at 6:49 a.m., Pagasa said thunderstorms are being experienced in Metro Manila, particularly in Taguig, Las Piñas, Manila, Quezon City, and San Juan, as well as Morong in Bataan, which may persist within two hours.

Thunderstorms will also prevail over Zambales, Cavite, Rizal and Quezon within the next two hours, Pagasa added.

Overcast skies with rainfall are also expected in Bicol Region and Palawan as well as the entire Visayas and Mindanao due to habagat, according to Obet Badrina, weather specialist of Pagasa.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will have hot and humid weather, Badrina said.

  • Tagaytay City: 22 to 31 degrees Celcius
  • Baguio City: 17 to 23 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City: 25 to 33 degrees Celcius
  • Legazpi City: 26 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tugegarao City: 26 to 35 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 26 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius

Visayas

  • Cebu: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Mindanao

  • Zamboanga City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan de Oro: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius

No tropical cyclones are expected to form or enter the Philippine area of responsibility, said Badrina.

He also said that Pagasa raised no gale warnings in any seaboards nationwide.
