Three people hurt in Cotabato village explosion

An explosion rocks a Cotabato town on August 13, 2023, killing three people.

KIDAPAWAN CITY — A loud explosion rocked a village of Kabacan town in Cotabato province at 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, August 13, wounding three people, according to local police.

Kabacan town police chief Lt. Col. Maxim Peralta said the family of Wadzere Salasal, 48, was asleep inside their store in Sitio Lumayong, Barangay Kayaga when an Mk2 fragmentation grenade went off, hitting him, his wife Norma, 50; and their daughter Amanie, 6.

Peralta said the three victims sustained shrapnel wounds in different parts of their bodies and were rushed to a hospital in Barangay Poblacion for treatment.

The police’s explosive ordnance disposal team also recovered the safety lever and the pin of the explosive but could not yet tell the motive behind the attack.
