NDRRMC says 51,500 people affected by severe weather are still in evacuation centers

MANILA, Philippines — More than 51,500 people displaced by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) and Falcon (international name: Khanun), and the southwest monsoon remain in evacuation centers as of Saturday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Based on the NDRRMC’s situation report released at 8 a.m., August 5, at least 648 evacuation hubs in Regions 1, 2, 3, and 6, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa are serving as temporary shelters for 51,593 people displaced by the three severe weather events.

The total count of displaced people due to Egay, Falcon, and the southwest monsoon, which is locally known as habagat, is 285, 202 as of Saturday.

As for agricultural losses, the agency said estimates increased to P2,766,601,432 as of August 5. Damage to infrastructure also increased to P3,361,012,164.

A total of 232 areas have declared a state of calamity after receiving the wrath of Egay, Falcon, and the southwest monsoon, the NDRRMC added.
