COUNCILMAN  NABBED FOR TONG-ITS

A BARANGAY official was arrested after he was caught playing tong-its, a card game, in Argao town, southern Cebu.

Bogo barangay councilor Rodrigo Famat, 50, and Vicente Caminero face charges of illegal gambling.

Argao policemen went to the  barangay after being alerted about a gambling sesion going on Friday afternoon.

They found  Famat, Caminero and Gregorio Mamac playing tong-its.

FARMER DROWNS OFF DALAGUETE

A 67-YEAR-OLD farmer drowned in the waters off barangay Banigan, Dalaguete town, southern Cebu.

Police said  Tranquilino Ambrad  and his friends were drinking while fishing near  the shore last Friday night.

Ambrad suddenly disappeared, causing a commotion.

Police said Ambrad was later found submerged. His hands and feet were entangled in a  fish net.

Ambrad was taken to the Cardinal Rosales Memorial Hospital where  doctors declared him dead. /CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC

HOUSEOWNER NABBED FOR GUNS

A MAN was arrested after police found firearms in his home during a raid in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

A .45 pistol and a .38 revolver were recovered from the house of Herman Baguio Tampan in sitio Ibabao.

A search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Executive Judge Toribio Quiwag was used in the raid  by members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7).

Chief Insp. Fermin Armendarez III said they received reports that Tampan was the leader of a robbery group responsible for several robberies in the city.

A complaint for illegal possession of firearms was later filed against Tampan before the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutors’ Office, said police. /CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON

MACHINE SHOP WORKER  SHOT

A MACHINE shop worker was shot and wounded near his home in Compostela town, northern Cebu.

No clear motive was  established yet  for the attack on  Ronald Pocut.

Pocut  was fixing something outside his house in sitio Agies when two men on a motorcycle arrived and shot him past 10 a.m. yesterday.
