Imee Marcos on PH-ICC disengagement: ‘Tama naman, courts functioning just fine’

Senator Imee Marcos on Monday said she supports the country’s move to disengage with the International Criminal Court after it rejected the appeal to halt its investigation over former President Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody drug war.

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos on Monday said she supports the country’s move to disengage with the International Criminal Court after it rejected the appeal to halt its investigation over former President Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody drug war.

“Tama naman, ‘yun din naman ang polisiya ng previous administration, I think our courts are functioning just fine and there’s no need for interference,” said Sen. Marcos, chair of the Senate committee on foreign relations, as she made her red carpet appearance in her brother’s second State of the Nation Address (Sona).

(It’s the right move, that was also the policy of the previous administration, I think our courts are functioning just fine and there’s no need for interference.)

To recall, President Marcos previously reiterated that the government would not cooperate with the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) probe, agreeing to a “full disengagement” per the Office of the Solicitor-General.

With this, the President also did not mention the ICC during his second Sona.
