P22 billion worth of illegal drugs seized from July 2022 to May 2023 — PDEA
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Tuesday said that it seized more than P22 billion worth of illegal drugs from July 2022 to May this year.
According to PDEA, about P22.27 billion worth of illegal drugs, controlled precursors and essential chemicals, and laboratory equipment were confiscated by authorities after conducting 35,145 operations.
The agency said the P22.27 billion worth of narcotics consisted of 3,033.79 kilograms (kgs) of crystal meth or “shabu,” 19.51 kgs of cocaine, 43,939 pieces of ecstasy tablets, and 2,425.16 kgs of marijuana.
Aside from confiscating the illegal drugs, its anti-narcotics operatives arrested 48,843 individuals involved with drugs and 3,371 persons tagged as “high-value targets.”
Moreover, PDEA’s Barangay Clearing Program had cleared 27,248 drug-affected barangays and dismantled a clandestine laboratory and 557 drug dens.
