9 injured in Basilan explosion
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—At least nine persons were injured in an explosion at an eatery in Isabela City in Basilan around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, witnesses and other sources said.
“I saw at least six persons wounded in the explosion,” Father Allan Lagman, a diocesan priest, told the Inquirer by phone.
Anette Tan, an employee of the Department of Health who resides near Mon’s Kitchenette, said she saw at least nine injured persons.
Basilan Bishop Martin Jumoad said the blast was about 20 meters away from the Sta. Isabel Cathedral on Valderosa Road.
The Basilan police confirmed the explosion but said its cause was still being determined.
Superintendent Allan Nazaro, Isabela City police chief, said it occurred inside Mon’s Kitchenette.
